Some research has shown that cinnamon may not only help maintain healthy blood sugar levels, but also assist in reducing triglycerides and total cholesterol.
The study, published in the journal Diabetes Care, showed that people with type 2 diabetes mellitus who took cinnamon capsules lowered their blood sugar by an average of 18% to 29%, reduced triglycerides by 23% to 30%, reduced LDL cholesterol by 7% to 27%, and reduced total cholesterol by 1% to 26% with no change among the control groups. The study ran for forty days, but the healthful effects persisted even through the twenty day washout period from when the subjects stopped taking the cinnamon capsules and the last blood work of the study was performed.
