			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So, birthdays are a time of reflection. I think that’s because we prefer looking back to looking in the mirror. Not that it’s always terrible looking in the mirror…I have to say thanks to good genes that at forrrrr…forrrr…forty!&#8230;I have no wrinkles, yet. Not sure about gray…been coloring my hair too long to know what my real color is, let alone whether another color has crept in, yet. But, I digress.</p>
<p>As I reflect on my life thus far, I realize that I actually have learned a lot; some of it was even useful. (Sorry Mr. Wingard…still haven’t found a use for trigonometry.) I guess you learn different lessons at different ages, though the principle lasts a lifetime. For example, when I was a kid, I learned that you should never climb a tree without knowing you could get back down easily. Life lesson? Never get into a situation without a good exit strategy.</p>
<p>I learned as a teenager to watch my mouth or risk punishment. Life lesson? Think before you speak. You won’t get grounded as an adult, but you could hurt someone’s feelings pretty badly; and those wounds heal very slowly.</p>
<p>Other lessons are just basic. I’ve learned that gin is nasty and tastes like pine needles smell. I’ve learned that if you say, “Hot? That’s okay…I can eat anything,” that your body WILL pay you back. I’ve learned to ALWAYS put on makeup before leaving the house, because the one time you go to the grocery store with no makeup on and wearing sweats is the one day that you’ll see everybody you know – including old boyfriends.</p>
<p>Recently, I’ve learned that you really should start <span style="text-decoration: underline;">young</span> taking care of your body and your health. Start good habits early and you’ll keep them later on. A good exercise program is easier to start in your teens than in your…well…OLDER.</p>
<p>I’ve learned that I like vitamins and supplements better than medicine, so I stick with them everyday. More prevention today against future problems.</p>
<p>And finally, I’ve learned to hold friends and family close and tell them I love them. Learn that last one well.; it means more than all the others combined. So…all in all…forrrr…forrrr…FORTY…isn’t so bad. Let’s just see what I learn in my next 40.</p>
