Vacations are often the highlight of our summer, but don't forget to pack your health and fitness goals along with your sunscreen. You can have fun AND stay healthy.

1. Take advantage of the scenery. If you are at the beach, take a stroll or look for seashells. If you are at the lake, swim or ski. If you are going to stay in a hotel, book one with a fitness room. Just keep moving. If you get up early to do it, then you can relax the rest of the day; and you won’t feel like you spent the day working out.

2. Don’t skip the tasty meals, but don’t overdo it either. A lot of times, people go on vacation and think they can get hall pass on eating whatever they want and as much of it as they want, but those people come back to reality and usually a few pounds heavier than when they left. Instead, just use portion control so you can enjoy your vacation to the fullest without gaining weight. If you want dessert, split it with someone or even the whole group. If you are drinking alcohol, ask for a light version of your favorite beverage. (You might even consider taking along your favorite natural appetite suppressant to keep you on track.)

3. Drink lots of water. Thirst can easily be mistaken for hunger so keep a bottle of water with you at all times. If you are drinking alcohol, alternate between your drink and water to stay hydrated.
